Bible Study - On the Job Training – The Journey (1) - March 16, 2026

Our eldest daughter sent me a copy of the article copied and printed below written by Pastor Chip Ingram.

It is so True ---- All Christians are on a journey of discovery and on a learning curve as we walk with GOD through faith in JESUS and build a right relationship with THEM.

As we study Moses, we get to see Moses’ life’s journey with GOD both the good and the not so good. GOD chose him and it was a learning experience for him from the burning bush to the mountain top. WOW!!

I think of our Spiritual journey as “On The Job Training” or “Experiencing GOD through faith in JESUS.”

Dr. Henry Blackaby co-authored an excellent Christian study entitled “Experiencing God.” If you have not checked this study out, I encourage you to do so.

Most people acknowledge that GOD exists and from that vantage point many conclusions are formed.

We know that we live on a unique planet that is equipped with the necessary environment, food, water, etc. to sustain various forms of life, microscopic, plant, animal, human, aquatic, etc.

Planet earth, our birthplace, is to experience physical life and discover but being human also includes physical death. It is death that often gets our attention. GOD’S Word, THE BIBLE, gives us GOD’S plan for all humans to be born again Spiritually and to live eternally with GOD in Heaven, through faith in HIS only SON, JESUS. Life upon earth is a journey of discovery.

Let’s continue to consider Moses life’s journey of discovering the ONE TRUE GOD. Moses was not perfect, yet GOD chose him to reveal Himself to the Israelites and in turn to all the world.

Moses journey to discover GOD first began, of all things, through a burning bush.

GOD still gets our attention in many different ways. For Moses it was a burning bush. What was it or is it for you----???

It was through Moses that GOD established the Law, The Ten Commandments. The Law was ridged and absent “Grace” that would be on hold until the exact time for GOD’S Only SON, JESUS to come to earth. He had to live a 100% human life, without sin, WHO willingly gave his sinless human life by the shedding of HIS sinless blood to pay the penalty for sin, in full, for all who will place their faith in JESUS, to be “born again” Spiritually.

JESUS fulfilled The Law and established “Grace” through faith in JESUS and HIS Passion – Human sinless life, physical death, resurrection on the third day, walked upon earth for 40 days, bodily ascended into Heaven and took HIS seat at the right hand of GOD, HIS FATHER.

GOD revealed “The Law” to us, as humans, through Moses.

The passion of JESUS revealed GOD’S Grace to all who accept JESUS as GOD’S chosen perfect sacrifice, WHO paid the penalty for all of sins, in full, when any person accepts JESUS as his/her Savior.

All who accept JESUS as their Savior are born again Spiritually and become GOD’S eternal Son or Daughter.

Upon the physical death of the human body, the “Spirit born” person will NOT experience the death of his or her earth suit (human body) but will be in the presence of GOD and JESUS.

All Christians are on a journey of discovering GOD through faith in JESUS, which will not be complete until we meet GOD and JESUS face to face. Life is a learning experience to discover GOD and JESUS as we walk and journey upon earth through faith in JESUS --- Let’s explore!!!

We can learn from fellow believers who have or are walking with GOD through faith in JESUS.

Moses began his Spiritual journey of discovering GOD with GOD speaking to him through the “burning bush,” which GOD used to get his attention, as he journeyed to the mountain tops and desert of discovery.

GOD, through Moses, revealed the Law which was a place holder until JESUS fulfilled the Law and through HIS Passion established “Grace.”

JESUS thank YOU for establishing “Grace” so the Holy Spirit can dwell within each person who places his or her faith and trust in YOU.

The “Good News” today is that JESUS paid the penalty for all sin and speaks to all through THE HOLY SPIRIT! WHY? Because GOD loves you and JESUS died just for you. JESUS, via the Holy Spirit knocks on your hearts door but you are the only person who can open that door and invite JESUS into your heart or the most intimate part of your being where truth resides.

We can fool some people and talk Spiritual language, but no person will ever fool GOD because HE knows the real truth. So, do not attempt to “con” GOD. Truth works because GOD already knows all of our dirty little secrets and yet, HE loves us and JESUS willingly came to earth to live 100% human, give HIS sinless life to pay in full for all sin.

If JESUS paid for all sin, then all humans are, ok? No!

Each person must accept JESUS as his/her Savior.

One may question, “what happens to aborted babies, mentally challenged and many other situations life upon earth brings?”

Some may wish they had a “burning bush” but since the Passion of JESUS, all who place their faith in JESUS have been “born again” and are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, the part of the Trinity. The Trinity is GOD, THE FATHER, GOD, THE SON and GOD, THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The Holy Spirit knocks on the door of every person’s heart to let HIM come into his/her heart or innermost private room of his/her heart.

As Spirit Born Christians, THE TRINITY resides in his/her within the core of all Spirit Born Christians.

Although Moses was an Israelite, GOD had to reveal Himself known to Moses.

All Christians are, in essence, on that same journey of discovery and that journey is awesome.

Consider you are traveling at night. It is pitch dark, but you have a light source that when shining, cast light to revel the path or route to be traveled. Then you walk and as you walk the light reveals the path ahead. The key is to travel as far as you can see.

The same is true with Spiritual growth. A person must have the true light that only The Holy Spirit provides, as we travel as far as the light reveals.

It is vital that as we travel that we rest and eat Spiritual food that is provided through prayer, reading/studying and applying GOD’S Word.

Let’s explore!!!

Moses journey of discovery of GOD, his faith journey and GOD’S plan to deliver the Israelites from Egyptian bondage/slavery begins: Exodus 3:1-22:

Moses and the Burning Bush

Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro,[a] the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb,[b] the mountain of God. Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed. So Moses thought, “I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn’t the bush burning up?”

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses!”

GOD gets our attention in various ways – some good and some not so good. The Israelites were in bondage and were slaves. They were under the control of the Egyptians.

This is a foreshadow of all humans who are under the bondage and slavery of sin. All people need deliverance, except those who have not reached the age of accountability for various reasons.

“Here I am,” he (Moses) answered.

“Do not come closer,” he said. “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he continued, “I am the God of your father,[c] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings, and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. So because the Israelites’ cry for help has come to me, and I have also seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them, 10 therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

In essence, all people are in bondage upon earth and are slaves to sin. All need deliverance from this bondage of sin and its consequence, physical death. This is why GOD had to send HIS only SON, JESUS, to be the propitiation or pay for all sin, in full. Material or physical things were and are not sufficient to pay the sin debt all humans owe, except those who never reach the age of accountability. (My personal belief is the age of accountability is not a specific number.)

11 But Moses asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

12 He answered, “I will certainly be with you, and this will be the sign to you that I am the one who sent you: when you bring the people out of Egypt, you will all worship[d] God at this mountain.”

13 Then Moses asked God, “If I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?”

14 God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.[e] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.

Notice: GOD said, “The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob” all in the present tense and not the past tense.

GOD’S chosen were in bondage/slavery and HE chose Moses to deliver them from bondage. JESUS willingly left HIS home in Heaven to come to earth to deliver all people who will place their faith and trust in HIM.

But GOD had to first reveal that the Law was insufficient for the salvation of people. Salvation would require a radical change within every person. Each person must be “born again” Spiritually through faith in JESUS, WHO would willingly come to earth, live a perfect acceptable life to GOD and be qualified to be the perfect acceptable sacrifice to GOD, HIS FATHER to atone for all sin. The Israelites had to trust and follow Moses to the Promised Land. Since the Passion of JESUS, all must be redeemed from the consequence of sin and follow JESUS in order to enter Heaven.

16 “Go and assemble the elders of Israel and say to them: The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has appeared to me and said: I have paid close attention to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt. 17 And I have promised you that I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey. 18 They will listen to what you say. Then you, along with the elders of Israel, must go to the king of Egypt and say to him: The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go on a three-day trip into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.

19 “However, I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go, even under force from a strong hand. 20 But when I stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all my miracles that I will perform in it, after that, he will let you go. 21 And I will give these people such favor with the Egyptians that when you go, you will not go empty-handed. 22 Each woman will ask her neighbor and any woman staying in her house for silver and gold jewelry, and clothing, and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So, you will plunder the Egyptians.”

GOD would deliver the Israelites from bondage with material goods to take with them as they traveled to the Promised Land.

The same is true for those who have been “born again” through faith in JESUS. All are given the indwelling Holy Spirit WHO is the guarantee from GOD of salvation to those who have placed their faith and trust in JESUS.

Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in JESUS, except to trust and obey.

Moses was on a journey to discover GOD and so are we who have placed our faith in JESUS. Blessings!!!
